First Smiles Matter - Pima County Health Department
Representatives: Debra Stevenson (Outreach Program Coordinator) and Margaret Perry (Program Manager) The First Smiles Matter Program (FSM) provides free dental screenings and topical fluoride treatments for children ages 0-5 years. Pregnant women may also receive a free dental screening and oral health education about caring for their oral health, as well as their new baby’s oral health. All screenings and preventive treatments are provided by licensed dental professionals in childcare centers, preschools, and other places where young children and their families visit. FSM also offers education on “Oral Health in Early Childhood” to early care and education providers as well as medical/dental professionals. Our trained program staff can help childcare centers implement the ADHS Empower Program’s Standard #7: Oral Health to help prevent cavities and to help children build good oral hygiene skills at a young age that will have an effect on their quality of life.
